If you are uncertain of your Group Commitment please contact your Group Service Representative or the Correctional and Treatment Facilities Chairperson.

Alwood Treatment Centre

This is a closed service meeting.  It takes place in a residential treatment centre for young people with drug and alcohol problems.  They ask that the speaker be a person with 2 years of sobriety, and that their companions have at least 6 months.  Please don't take members who are obviously struggling, and NEVER EVER take anyone who has been drinking or looks like they might have been. There will be about 20 young people there, and a couple of councilors.  They will have made extra coffee,  the clients are not allowed to accept any food or drink from visitors. If you don't make it, you will be missed. We are putting on an AA meeting, but this treatment centre is not tied to us, and they are doing a drug treatment as well.  In fact, younger speakers who have had combination drug and alcohol issues will be most popular and relevant to the clients.  Still, we represent only AA.

An important point about anonymity, The clients here are undergoing treatment for drug and alcohol problems.  They are entitled to absolute anonymity.  Whom you see here, and what you hear here, let it stay here is not just a saying; practice it.

The meeting starts at 8:00 pm. Try to arrive a little early, but not before 7:45.  You should have someone who is prepared to be chairman, and a speaker.  The clients do the usual readings, then the visiting speaker will tell their story just like any other speaker meeting. Other visiting group members have no other role except to chat with the clients if they wish.

Newgate 180

This treatment centre is similar in most ways to Alwood.  It is a residential facility for men only, older than the clients at Alwood, and suffering from alcohol, drug, and gambling addictions.

The cautions about sobriety and anonymity apply here as well, and also the caution that whatever they are doing there, we are there only to say a few words about AA.
The address is 435 Main Street in Merrickville.  The meeting starts at 8:00 pm on Thursdays.
